From Spooner Lake to Marlette Summit, the road is a steep climb on a utility road. The trailhead parking lot has a parking fee. The trail, one way, is 14 miles from Spooner Lake to Incline Village. The descent is sometimes steep and technical and there are some corners. From the top of this 9.5 mile round trip hike you can see Emerald Bay, Cascade Lake, Fallen Leaf Lake. The advanced ride begins at Big Meadow Trailhead, heading north on the Tahoe Rim Trail. The hike to the top of Mount Tallac near Emerald Bay is one of the more difficult hikes in the area, and, from the amount of photos and commentaries, also one of the most rewarding. You will see the Carson Ranger station and the parking lot on the left hand side. Mount Tallac (9.5 mi round trip) - South Lake Tahoe. Both Mike's Trail and the southern end of the Upper Flume Trail are steep, loose climbs that may be challenging for beginners. Stay on 88 until you come to the top of Carson Pass. A loop ride through the Highlands at Breckenridge subdivision utilizing Lower Flume Trail, Mike's Trail, Middle Flume Trail, and Upper Flume Trail. This easy, two and a half mile, one way trail has several suspended walk ways over the flume, as well as views of the valley below the lake. When you come to the 89/88 interchange, turn right onto Highway 88. One of the most unique trails in the area, Browns Ditch Flume Trail follows the metal flume that carries water to Bass Lake during the wet season. This hike is around 6.5 miles with a 2,300 foot elevation gain, but you can extend it by heading down into the beautiful canyon that holds Fourth of July Lake which is surprisingly empty around Fourth of July.ĭirections: From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 89 south through Meyers and continue south. From the Carson Pass on Highway 88, you can access the trail and hike in the forest from little Frog Lake, to Round Top Lake to Winnemucca Lake. It also supports huge blooms of spring and summer wildflowers, and expansive views of the lakes and mountains in the Mokelumne Wilderness south of Tahoe.
